Strangers in the night

Well, I was crossing over King St earlier this week and who should I spot running to cross George St on the other side but Gerry? I shouted across and we acknowledged each other. Not as good as having lunch at the pub with a beer, but you have to make do with what you can get.

Caught up with Michael last week for a coffee as well. When I came down stairs I found him on the other side of the street with Jonny & Yoong having a cigarette - some things never change!

Looking forward to seeing you all at the Xmas party. I reckon that it will be great fun - probably better than the "we can only afford one party" EIT function.

Speaking of parties here's a shot from the Sat night U2 concert that I went to with Davina

Cheers,
George

wedding in Thailand!

Hey guys :) Sorry its been a while since I posted, but am currently jaunting around Thailand on something called a honeymoon :) The wedding/reception in Thailand was amazing - To those unmaried folk, if you want a stress free wedding, I highly recommend doing it at a resort! We found Anantara Resorts to be pretty good! We had a wedding planner who took care of EVERYTHING. That meant no stress to Josie or myself :) We arrived in Koh Samui on Monday, met with him on Tuesday morning and after our meeting we knew it was going to go like clockwork - this guy had everything under control for the Saturday wedding. I have attached a few pics of the wedding - the ceremony on the beach, just after the "you may now kiss the bride" as well as a group shot of everyone at the wedding - hopefully the girls can see Josie's wedding dress (I am told that what girls like to see?). I gotta say it was one of the best days of my life. Since then we have been to Krabi and just gotten off a boat (4 day dive trip) at some fantastic dive sites off Phuket. Now in Phuket for a few days to rest and recover before going to Hua Hin and finally Bangkok......we arrive back in Oz on the 24th and then its back to reality on Monday 27th where I start back as a permmie......Looking forward to the catch up on Dec 5 and I hope everyone is coping okies......am a bit behind on the blog but will be reading the previous entries :-)

talk to you again soon!

The consulting gig (pt 1)

Finally in all my busy-ness I have time do post a blog. (The dev server is being restarted, :P). Consulting has been what I expected it to be - hard and challenging, lots of opportunity for growth, and being scared as hell doing it. As some of you may know already on my 2nd day I was responsible for developing a training course for a version of our famous 'C' software I haven't even touched - and at that an advanced course. I started off thinking it was a doable challenge to 'prove' myself in the new role, however after a few days I quickly realised I didn't know much at all, upon which i quickly 'managed' the expectation and told the powers that be i simply could not do it nor be expected to, given that in running the course I would be in a situation of the 'blind leading the blind' - which would be a detriment to our company rep. To my surprise the upper-level powers were really understanding and concurred with my thoughts (phew!). Luckily for me the client had not signed the engagement anyway and so the plug was pulled on the dates of which I was to run the course (bigger phew!). The lesson I learnt - if you think that sh*t will start to hit the fan you'd better flag it as soon as you know, because if you don't and the fan ends up getting pelted with sh*t, you've got all the blame to take and no negotiating power to fall back on [Knowing a mentor who happened to be an executive coach whilst I was going through this was a big help :)].....most of you may think "that's easy everyone knows that's what you should do" - however when you're going through it and you've got pressure from all fronts, it's easier said than done.

Since then I've been doing more 'manageable' projects, which are of course still challenging me. So far so good since i'm not stressing out. Next time you hear from me i might be working in Mumbai - some action happening there for our team. Now THAT will be a story.
Bye for now.

went riding this morning..........

and had a wondeful time I must say.. what a beautiful day. It won't last though.. only one more week before work. Thinking of riding, I thought you might enjoy this short clip.. how a good rider manages when something unexpected happens.. .. I should have watched this before I came off last year.. my jump wasn't as high but the horse did similar thing.. went in opposite direction to me ... oops... :-) Look carefully at the direction in which the rider is looking after he jumps the third jump... he is doing everything right but the horse has other ideas :-) enjoy.. have a good weekend.. Hello everyone.

Can anyone tell me how to load a picture into this blog space? I would like to post a "mo" picture and give you a progress update.

Thanks Michael for your sponsorship. This is a very worthy cause and your contribution is greatly appreciated.

I have booked the time in for the Christmas party - sounds like it's going to be great fun - but there's a chance I won't be able to make it. Mrs. B's mother is going into hospital to have some surgery in the first week of December, so I'll be looking after the kids while she's in Newcastle.

Congratulations on your new role, Michael. I wish you every success.

All the best,

Rob

Joss Stone, Rod Stewart and the Christmas Party

yes a strange subject contents but well, that is life, strange at times.

Some of you may know I rather enjoy Rod's music, I doubt you know I think Joss is brilliant, even if she never returns my phone calls or emails :-) but to see them together is something I dont think has happened that often. So enjoy the following.. I do

Now for the Christmas Party, I have rescheduled to December 5th .. the Tuesday... hopefully that means no conflict with the DS implementations on the 7th and everyone will be able to attend. I've sent an email but please do your very best to be there no later than 6:30.. OK

my only other news is I have a new role.. I start on 20th November.. looking forward to telling you about it on 5th December.

Best wishes Michael

First of all, congratulations to Courtenay now that he's finally taken the plunge. It seems like only yesterday when he was planning his wedding list!

Second, congratulations to Anne on her new job at MLC. Anne, I hope you will be happy and successful.

Finally, I'd like to ask you all to help me to raise money for men's health. I have joined a team here in the bank and we are all growing moustaches for "Movember". This charity seeks to raise awareness about men's health issues. It is also being promoted by Rove McManus and a number of high-profile personalities. Read on for further details.

Male health is a major issue, did you know:
Men are far less healthy than women. The average life expectancy of males is 6 years less than females.

Every year in Australia 2,700 men die of prostate cancer – more than the number of women who die from breast cancer.

Depression affects 1 in 6 men…Most don’t seek help. Untreated depression is a leading risk factor for suicide. Rates of suicide are more than double the national road toll.

Help me to change the face of men’s health by sponsoring my mo!

Please go to http://www.movember.com.au/au/sponsor, enter the EIT Mo Bro’s Rego number which is 16560 and your credit card details. All donations of $2 and over are tax deductible.

I will commit to providing a weekly update on the progress of my mo, if you're interested - including pictures - and I'll try to describe the reactions my mo gets in public and the work environment. Please note that I am not the most hersuit person in the world so the results may be disappointing.

I hope you can all help me with this very worthy cause.

All the best,

Rob
